Salam aidilfitri 2010

Lagi-lagi kes Sosilawati. Malas nak komen so baca ler di akhbar utama anda.

I see that some of my friends had already posted Eid's photos in facebook. I haven't because I'm still holidaying, not yet back at home so that I can edit some pictures. As usual, the picture taken were scarce. Mainly because we were too busy eating and catching up with relatives that we met once a year. Also, since on baby duty, you can't let a minute unaware before disaster about/will happen. As usual also, the pictures are of Fatin (luckily you're cute) so, will post up when we're back which still in planning.

It's sad since the daughter and cousins won't have Eid like we had:

  • excited on going back to kampung (apa kelas raya kat KL? hahaha..). Both our parents are in KL so, we spend it here. Though, we did went back to my kampung (Negori ajo) but since it's a day trip, it doesn't really feel like truly 'balik kampung' in a sense.
  • have all the aunties, uncles and cousins all in one roof which inspire tradisional games (pukul berapa datuk harimau?) or helping with Eid preparation (making lemang or putting biscuits into decorative container). Closer bonds.
  • Sleeping together (all cousins and talking till late or watch tv till late)
  • have homemade food (lemang, rendang kawah, ketupat (bukan nasi impit ye))
  • have firework fights with neighbour (luckily non of us is experience enough to built meriam buluh -- only  our other relatives that live nearby). We did manage to experiment in different way to burn the fireworks.
  • go in large groups to relatives houses (konvoi). Our schedule was so packed that we didn't together to stranger house to collect duit raya.
  • got A Lot more duit raya packages due to more houses that we went and more relatives that we met. Though, the amount of money might be less since we had received 50 cent at a time (since when RM1 becomes the minimum amount???)
  • on morning of Eid, we got checkpoints where you go around your aunts and uncles and collect money.
  • experience the problems that kampung can have like handphone reception are only in certain places in the house, tv reception are limited to TV3 and TV1, tv are only one so, the film on Eid's night will be aired from the most vote/veto from the person with most power, there is only one bathroom, therefore, an official queuing system is made up, having a grown-up wait at the toilet outside door because the toilet is separate from the main house (takut la) and no water which result to shower using water from well or rain water.

I know that we can bring this tradition back but whose going to do it and who got the expertise to cook for plenty of people? Speaking of no water, here in Selayang also have shortage of water. I guess this problems are not just for kampung.

Speaking of no water also, I met my cousin and she had wrote a short story (cerpen) which were picked up by PTS One to be published in the compilation. It told a story of our experince (my cousins and I) during Eid in kampung with no water. I haven't read it yet but I'm sure it will bring nostalgia for me. There are other short stories and comics in it also. So, if you want to order, click here.

Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri everyone! Maaf zahir dan batin. Control your eating and have a safe journey home.

How was everyone celebration?
